The Unconference
This is a good article laying down the unconference for the uninitiated.
It won't be too long before the open conferencing model is all we know, I dare to guess.
Update: Hang on a second. This could be a good article, if it didn't render (and insult) the organizer of the unconference, invisible. As the lead in the project, she's relegated to chair percher, and her boyfriend gets the press. Why is that?
